Many hands make light work!
Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa holds 41 diaries and nearly 7000 negatives and prints from Horowhenua farmer, photographer, tramper, geologist, archaeologist, ethnologist, son, brother, husband and father George Leslie Adkin.
He wrote his diary daily for all 59 years of his adult life, from 1905 to 1964.
This summer, we ran a small pilot project, inviting volunteers to help us transcribe Leslie Adkin's diaries. Thanks to everyone who got the ball rolling! We are now preparing to extend the project. More details will be available by the end of March.
Your help is making these daily details of New Zealand history easier to search and discover. Thank you for joining us!

The diaries are in copyright and Te Papa holds a copyright licence permitting Te Papa to organise this transcription project. The copyright in the diaries is due to expire in New Zealand after 31 December 2014. Any transcription work you do will inherit the copyright status of the original diary entry. Te Papa will make the transcription publicly available to view and, once copyright expires, Te Papa will make the transcriptions publicly available for reuse.
